Please be sure to check out all the amazing hacks and capsule collections highlighted throughout Bella Sunshine Back to School Tour.
With my daughter starting preschool in the fall. I wanted to make something fun to get her started on her way to early reading readiness. Windham Fabrics Kinder collection brought my vision to life. I purchased my fabric from Punkin Threads. Kinder is inspired by designer Heather Ross\’ daughter Beatrix\’s year in kindergarten. The prints are inspired by her classroom itself (plus an apple for her teacher), and the colors straight from the rainbows that she and her classmates made at the beginning of the school year in homage to the diverse community that is our neighborhood in New York City. Heather built the collection with bright quilts, illustrative applique\’s, nap mats and reading poufs, and of course, a first day of school dress, in mind.
I use Kinder Alphabet Pink for the main bodice front, back and skirt paired with Kinder Apples Pink for the side panels front, back and sleeves.
I made Bella Sunshine\’s Josephine because it gives me a classic vintage vibe. The princess seams called out to me and it was love at first site. It features a boat neck that pairs perfectly with the tailored cap sleeve. You can add piping to the princess seams for added details. Josephine\’s drop waist and gathered skirt allows your child for growth throughout the school year. The back features an exposed zipper giving the pattern a modern edge. The drop waist skirt has a large hem that you can let out as your child grows. Plus, the garment comes in three lengths: a top length designed to end just past the hips, a vintage length designed to hit mid thigh, and a traditional dress length designed to hit just above the knee. The back has a zipper closure.
Josephine sewed up quickly and with no issues. The fit was on point. I will be sewing up more Josephine\’s in the future to use as uniform jumper. So make sure you stop back by Blooming Skies to see Josephine in action.
